The little village of Goritzy lies on the Sheksna River and is near the Kirillov-Belozersky Monastery. Named after the monk Kyrill, who left Moscow for Goritzy at age 60, the monastery was supported financially by the Muscovite Czars. In 1968, the monastery was transformed into a museum.
